Chapter Eleven

I missed you.

Max stared at Patrick’s sleeping profile and the way his long, thick lashes brushed the delicate flesh beneath his eyes. The three words echoed inside his head. But he didn’t dare let them out.

Last night had been surreal.

Fucking awesome.

Yet something inside warned him that Patrick was still on the edge, skittish about things getting too serious. That Patrick believed anything between them beyond a few hot rolls in the sack would be impossible. Hell, maybe he was right.

His stomach twisted at the thought.

But what if he was wrong?

He tightly curled his fingers, doing his best to quell the sudden desire to run his fingertips along the shadow of the other man’s beard and feel the coarse bristles scratch his skin. Max swallowed hard. He couldn’t take the chance of history repeating itself—of having to watch him walk away again. And this time might be forever.

From that first evening they’d spent together, Max had had a feeling no one would ever compare to Patrick. And he’d been right.

PG was a force of nature. Unique. Tough as hell. Yet he also had a vulnerable side that drew him like a moth to a flame. But Max didn’t give a shit if he got burned as long as he was flying close to his light, touching him, catching a glimpse of his heart.

As if Patrick had heard his thoughts, the big guy opened his eyes. He blinked and glanced Max’s way. “Hey there,” Patrick said, a sleepy smile curling the corners of his mouth.

“Hey, sleepyhead,” Max replied. Finally giving in to the need to reach, to touch, he ran his palm along Patrick’s cheek

“Wow.” Patrick surged up onto his elbow, his focus trained on the beam of sunlight that had found the opening between the hotel’s drapes. “What time is it?”

Max rolled onto his side, scanning the nightstand. “If that clock is right, it’s seven thirty.”

“I should be getting home.” Patrick sighed, dropped onto the pillow, and shoved back the hair on his forehead. “I don’t want Liam to wake up and find out that I’m not home.”

“He’s a teenager, I bet he sleeps late on the weekend.”

“Shit. That’s right. It’s Saturday.” He looked Max’s way and smiled. “That would mean I do have a little more time.” Patrick draped his arm over Max and closed the distance between them. Max’s morning wood pressed into Patrick’s hard abs as the other man’s erection nudged Max’s upper thigh. “What do you think we should do with the next hour before we have to return the world? I know what I’m voting for.”

His smile morphing from amused to wicked, Patrick slung his leg over Max’s, and his hand slid south and cupped Max’s ass.

Max chuckled. “I do like where your mind is heading.”

Patrick growled and rocked his hard shaft into Max’s leg. “That’s not my mind, baby. Although…” The sharp edge of Patrick’s teeth nipped Max’s shoulder right before he soothed the sting with his tongue. “I am having some very dirty thoughts involving you and me that are driving me crazy right now.
